Customer Reviews
Rental apartments never seem to have more than one towel rack installed in the master bathroom. This never made any sense to me. Our particular apartment didn't really have room to install an additional towel rack on the walls, so I was looking for a good over-the-door rack.
I initially bought this product: InterDesign Formbu Over-the-Door Triple Towel Bar, Bamboo/Bronze Big mistake! The bamboo was not sealed, so over time and damp towels being placed on it, the stain on the bamboo leached out onto my (white!) towels and began to grow mold. Gross! Also, though it was a 3-tier towel rack, only 2 were really usable.
In looking for a better (long lasting, non-towel-staining) replacement I came across the Interdesign York - which is 10 times better and suited our needs perfectly! Funny that the two different products are from the same company, but radically different in quality.
The York design looks great on the back of our bathroom door. It goes have a decent sized hook to go over the top of the door - too much space for our door, so I used a few photo-mount pads to keep the rack snug against the door and keep it from rattling. Never rusted, allowed enough room to hang an extra towel and bathrobe without causing mold or stains.
Anyone looking to add some extra space in a room without the fuss of installing should get this rack. Whatever you do, don't get the Bamboo Triple Towel Bar!
I purchased this from Amazon and it looks pretty nice and does the job of holding my extra towels. The hangers were kind of wide for my 1.5 inch doors. I had the perfect solution by using makeup wedges to give the hangers some extra space from the door. My significant other thought he'd be more handy and nailed the top hanger to the top of the doors. Big mistake! That left a dent on the door frame. Oh geeeez, great job handyman! It also creaks at the top due to the extra nail. So, I'm telling you, if you feel like there is too much space between the door at the hanger, use sponges or foam and tape it around the hanger to give it an anchor. It's a simple solution. Other than the larger space between the door, the towel rack itself is a nice design. It fits small/medium sized towels across the bar. I use the lower hangers to hold dryer towels and I actually put my "wet" large towel horizontally across the top bar so that the long ends hang to the sides. I think this method keeps my towels dryer because the bar itself isn't designed to fit large towels (unless you fold your large towel in half) in full piece. Overall, the towel rack is sturdy and worth the buy!
